Social technologies, such as social media and wearable devices, are increasingly prevalent in society. These technologies and their data can help inform public health and medicine. For example, online communities can be developed and used in ways that positively change patient behaviors; data from these and other technologies can be used to monitor and predict public health outcomes, such as disease outbreaks. This talk will discuss research in these areas and how technologies can predict and change health behaviors and outcomes.
